Manhattan Short Film Festival - 10 Great Films, One Great Night!

For one weekend only, filmgoers in Lewiston, Mainewill unite with audiences in over 250 cities spanning six continents to view and judge the work of the next generation of filmmakers from around the world when the 19th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival screens at The Public Theatre in Lewiston on Fri and Sat, September 23 and 24 at 7:30pm. Tickets can be purchased online at www.thepublictheatre.org or by calling 782-3200.  Tickets are $8 for adults and students.

Four Time Winner - "Best Theatre in Maine" - Down East Magazine Readers' Poll

For the fourth year in a row, thousands of people throughout the state have voted The Public Theatre the BEST THEATRE IN MAINE in the Down East Magazine readers’ poll. A banquet celebrating the 2016 “Best of Maine” winners was recently held in Portland and the Co-Artistic Directors of Lewiston/Auburn’s professional theatre proudly picked up their award.

The Ladies Foursome: A Hole in One Comedy!

Imagine “Sex and the City” on a golf course, as The Public Theatre chases away the winter blues with the New England premiere of the smart and sassy comedy, The Ladies Foursome, playing Jan 22 – Jan 31st.  Directed by two-time Tony Award winning actress Judith Ivey, this entertaining comedy centers on three friends who gather together to play a final round of golf in honor of their recently deceased fourth partner and close friend. Joined by an unknown friend of the deceased, these four women banter, tease and tee off about love, sex, motherhood and careers, learning about themselves and each other as they celebrate the bonds of friendship that link women together.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL returns to The Public Theatre!

This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 11, 12, and 13th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol followed bya holiday sing–a-long featuring Christmas Carol fiddler Jennifer Armstrong.The Public Theatre’s own version of Dickens’ classic has become a favorite holiday tradition in Lewiston/Auburn. This inventive adaptation, performed by six actors and a fiddler, was developed and written for The Public Theatre by Artistic Director Christopher Schario in 1993, and has since been published by Dramatists Play Service and is now regularly performed by theatres around the world.
