Over 1,500 students set to see A Christmas Carol at The Public Theatre

Over 1,500 students from various schools throughout Maine will be attending The Pubic Theatre’s acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol. “We’re very excited to be able to introduce so many students to this wonderful story, as well as having the honor of giving many of them their first experience attending a professional theatre”, says Artistic Director Christopher Schario. Along with its regularly scheduled performances of A Christmas Carol for the general public on Dec 7, 8, and 9th, The Public Theatre offers additional student matinee performances as part of its educational outreach programming at the affordable price of only $5 per ticket. This reduced ticket rate ticket is made possible by the generous support of foundations and local businesses.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL returns to The Public Theatre!

This holiday season, for one weekend only, Dec 7, 8, and 9th, The Public Theatre, will present their acclaimed adaptation of A Christmas Carol followed by a holiday sing–a-long featuring Christmas Carol fiddler Jennifer Armstrong. The Public Theatre’s own version of Dickens’ classic has become a favorite holiday tradition in Lewiston/Auburn. This inventive adaptation, performed by six actors and a fiddler, was developed and written for The Public Theatre by Artistic Director Christopher Schario in 1993, and has since been published by Dramatists Play Service and is now regularly performed by theatres around the world.

Laughter, Love and Literature at The Public Theatre

The Public Theatre’s 22nd season officially opens with the entertaining and clever new comedy, The Book Club Play, playing October 19 - 28.  Laughter meets literature in this hip new comedy that combines the humor of Frasier and Friends with the wackiness of reality TV, when a book club becomes the subject of a documentary film and is hilariously immortalized in all its dysfunctional glory (imagine Lord of the Flies with wine and dip).

A Wise and Whimsical Comedy About Love, Marriage & Miscommunication

The Public Theatre is proud to present the New England Premiere of The Language Archive, a wise and whimsical comedy about love, marriage and miscommunication playing Jan 27 - Feb 5. “We’re thrilled to be one of the first professional theatres in the country to produce this play since its New York debut”, says Artistic Director Christopher Schario. “We fell in love with this show when we saw it in New York, and we believe our audience will fall in love with it as well.
