A Rejuvenating Comedy for Multi-tasking Parents!
October 10, 2008
The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn’s Professional Theatre, literally kicks off its season with the New England premiere of the recent Off-Broadway comedy Secrets of a Soccer Mom, by Kathleen Clark, playing Oct 24 – Nov 9th. If you think you’re too busy to see this play, or envy Dora the Explorer’s travel opportunities, or find that a trip to the bathroom is your best hope for “quality alone time” - this is a play for you! No matter what sport or activity you’ve even driven your child to, this rejuvenating comedy addresses the question, “How in the world did I wind up here?”
Experience the humorous and uplifting journey of three multi-tasking moms who recapture their spirit, humor and passion when they play in the annual “mother vs. son” soccer game against their 8 year old sons - and try to win the game! Speaking as a dad, as well as the Artistic Director of The Public Theatre, Christopher Schario guarantees that any parent, male or female, will see themselves on stage, and leave the theatre feeling a little better than when they arrived. “When you’re a parent, it’s so easy to think that you’re the only one going through the exhaustion, as well as all the wonderful and complicated feelings that come up around being a parent, and it’s heartening to be reminded that you’re not alone”. Because this play strikes a chord with so many women in today’s world, The Public Theatre has already extended the run, adding an extra weekend of performances. With an attractive group rate ticket price of only $14 for groups of ten or more, this show is a great excuse for a group of busy friends to get together.
Also added, is a special “mommy matinee” performance at 10:30am on Oct 28th. For earlybirds, or parents who can’t stay up past 9pm, or have trouble finding a babysitter, this specially priced performance (All seats $15) is a great way to give yourself a little playtime. Drop the kids at school, or daycare, come see the show, and 90 minutes later you’ve still got time for lunch before you turn back into a chauffeur.
Starring as the three moms are professional actresses, Heather Dilly, Maura O’Brien and Janet Mitchko. Heather appeared in the original production of “Soccer Moms” directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivy. The set design, complete with grass, bleachers and SUV’s in the background, is designed by Jennifer Madigan, lighting by Bart Garvey, and costumes by Jonna Klaiber.
Secrets of a Soccer Mom will be performed at The Public Theatre, Lewiston/Auburn’s Professional Theatre, Oct 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 31, Nov 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Performance times are Thurs at 7pm, Fri and Sat at 8pm, Sun at 2pm, and Tuesday Oct 28th at 10:30am. Adults $18, Sr/Stu $16, Group Rate (10+) $14.
