Below you will find answers to the most common questions you may have about purchasing, giving, and using E-Gift Cards.
Most of this information comes directly from the Local Gift Cards site.

Purchasing an Electronic Gift Card
What is the difference between and E-Gift and an M-Gift?
The only difference is the delivery method. They work the same when redeeming online, in-person, or over the phone.
- E-Gift Cards are emailed to the recipient.
- M-Gift Cards are delivered via text message. If email is provided, a copy will be sent to their email, as well.
How do I purchase an Electronic Gift Card?
Visit our Electronic Gift Card sales site to choose how you would like to deliver your gift, pick the amount of your gift, customize your message to the recipient, and even schedule delivery up to three months in advance.
- E-Gift Cards are emailed to the recipient.
- M-Gift Cards are delivered via text message. If provided, a copy will be sent to their email, as well.
I sent an Electronic Gift. How will I know my order went through?
Cards are issued to the recipient only. The sender does not receive a copy of the gift card. The sender will receive an order confirmation (receipt of purchase) ONLY which CANNOT be used for redemption.
If you would like a copy of the gift card, please email INFO@LocalGiftCards.com with your Order Number from your confirmation and they will forward you a copy once it has been issued.
I haven’t / my recipient hasn’t received their Gift Card yet. How long does it take?
Most gift cards are issued in less than 2 hours & often much sooner. A delay is in place to reduce credit card theft.
If it has been 2 hours or more, please have your recipient check their spam/junk mail (Gmail users should check their Promotions tab, if they use that function). The order will come from GC-Orders@LocalGiftCards.com.
If your recipient still cannot locate the card, please check your order confirmation to make sure there are no typos in the recipient’s email.
If you have received your order confirmation, you can check your order status on the Gift Card purchasing site by clicking the “ORDER STATUS” tab.
- Enter the email you used to place the order and Order Number from your confirmation.
- This will display the information about your gift and give the option to resend it. You have the option to correct or change the email address the Gift will be delivered to.
For security reasons, the entire gift card number will only be visible to the recipient.
If there are no errors and the Gift Card has still not been received, please contact INFO@LocalGiftCards.com.
Please be aware that firewalls can prevent the transmission of E-gift cards.
What if I want to give my gift in person?
Simple! Just use the SAME email address (yours) for the recipient and the sender. Please avoid using multiple personal email addresses.
When you receive the E-gift card, you can print it out and put it in an envelope or wrap it up in a box for a fun surprise. You may want to follow up after giving your E-gift by forwarding the digital copy via email, so the recipient has it for safekeeping.
What can be purchased with my Electronic (E or M) Gift Card?
Electronic (E or M) Gift Cards may be redeemed for tickets and subscriptions purchased ONLINE, in-person, or over the phone. They may not be redeemed for concessions, merchandise or any fundraising activity not for sale through our online Box Office.
Though nothing will stop you from doing it, we do not recommend using E-Gift Cards to purchase paper/traditional Gift Certificates.
Using Your Electronic Gift Card
What can be purchased with my Electronic (E or M) Gift Card?

How do I use my Electronic Gift Card?
You may use your Gift Card to purchase tickets ONLINE, in-person, or over the phone.
ONLINE: you will see a “USE GIFT CARD” button on the Checkout page. Have your E-Gift Card number handy (carts time out after 60 minutes) and follow the instructions.
IN-PERSON: You may print out your e-gift or display it on your smartphone. If printing, please ensure that the gift card number is legible.
OVER THE PHONE: Have your E-Gift Card number handy when you call to place your order.
Your gift value is tracked by the card number that appears in the email or text message delivering your Gift Card. If any graphics do not appear or print properly, you can redeem your gift card as long as the card number is readable. The card number appears as part of the barcode as well as in text below “YOUR CARD NUMBER”.
How do I use my E-Gift Card to make an online purchase?
- Select your items for purchase, apply any discount codes and CHECKOUT
- Click the “USE GIFT CARD” button.
- Enter your Gift Card Number and Check Balance
Your Gift Card Balance will appear and you will be notified whether it covers your entire order, how much will be due by Credit Card, and if you would like to apply your Gift Card Balance to the order.
- Click YES to use your Gift Card. It will display the remaining balance due.
Clicking NO, will return you to Step 2 where you will select ENTER PAYMENT to pay entire amount due with a Credit Card.
- Click ENTER PAYMENT.
Clicking BACK will return you to the CONTACT page of the checkout (your information will still be there). Clicking NEXT will re-start the payment process. Select ENTER PAYMENT if you do not wish to use a Gift Card toward your purchase.
- Complete your payment with a Credit Card.
You will be given the option to save your payment information for future use. You must UNCHECK the box if you would not like to save your payment.
Should I save my Payment Method?
Saving your payment method uses a secure digital “wallet” hosted by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not have access to your credit card data and it will not be available to us for future in-person or phone orders.
You will receive a verification email to activate your Link wallet. You do not need to complete verification in order for your payment to process.
If you choose to save your payment to Link, you will be offered that payment method the next time you place an order on our ticketing site that can be associated with your Link wallet (email and phone number).
If you have logged out of Link and there is a match, you will be sent a verification code to log back in.
Can I use only part of my Gift Card balance to make a purchase?
ONLINE. You may NOT apply only a portion of your Gift Card balance to an ONLINE purchase.
IN-PERSON or over the PHONE: You MAY call the Box Office at 207-782-3200 to place your order and redeem only a portion of your Gift Card balance.
ONLINE: If your purchase amount is MORE than your Gift Card balance, the entire GC balance will be applied to your purchase, then you will pay the remaining amount with a credit card.
ONLINE: If your purchase amount is LESS than your Gift Card balance, the entire PURCHASE amount will be deducted from your Gift Card balance. You may use the remaining GC balance for a future purchase.
Can I apply more than one Gift Card to my order?
ONLINE: NO. If you have two Gift Cards with small balances, you may not apply them BOTH to the same online order. Once one Gift Card is applied to the purchase, the remainder of the purchase amount will have to be paid with a credit card.
IN-PERSON or over the PHONE: You MAY call the Box Office at 207-782-3200 to place your order and redeem more than one Gift Card.
How do I know my Gift Card Balance?
Please use the tools on the Gift Card Purchase site to check your card’s balance, usage history, and expiration date. Don’t worry. Electronic Gift Cards issued on this site expire after 20 years.
When making a purchase online your balance will be displayed during the payment process.
Can I still buy paper Gift Certificates?
Can I still buy a traditional paper Gift Certificate?
Yes. Traditional Gift Certificates may be redeemed for one or more tickets to any show at The Public Theatre. Gift Certificates have no cash value and are not refundable. They do not expire and are worth the value of the items indicated at the time of purchase.
ONLINE: You can purchase Gift Certificates online through our secure website to be mailed to you or the recipient ($2 shipping fee applies), or for pick-up at the Theatre during regular business hours.
IN-PERSON or over the PHONE: You may also purchase them in-person, or call 207-782-3200 during regular business hours.

If you need a gift quickly, please consider purchasing an Electronic Gift Card. They are available online 24/7 with delivery to you or the recipient in 2 hours or less.
How do I redeem a paper Gift Certificate?
Traditional Gift Certificates may only be redeemed in-person or over the phone by calling the Box Office at 207-782-3200. You will be asked to provide the ITEM number or other identifying information. Paper Gift Certificates are worth the value at the time of purchase. Additional funds may be due when making your purchase.
