The Public Theatre PatronManager Privacy Policy
- Description of Service
This privacy policy is intended to inform you about the information and data gathered by LA Public Theatre, Inc. DBA: The Public Theatre (“us”, “we”) when you use this service, how we store your information, information we collect and to the degree your information may be used.
The Public Theatre takes your privacy seriously. We do not rent, sell or share your personal information with 3rd parties, except as listed below. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Please check back for the latest and most updated privacy policy posted here. The Public Theatre provides you with the opportunity to review, remove and modify any personal information that you provided previously under the Data Protection Act 1998, please contact us directly by email at info@thepublictheatre.org or calling 207-782-3200 to make changes to your personal information.
- Data Collection & Use
We only collect the personal data you choose to provide us during your purchase process. As part of the purchase process, in order to use The Public Theatre services you need to provide us with your Full Name, Address, Email Address, Phone, Country, State, Zip Code, and Billing information, including credit card data. All data is stored in the United States. You may elect to not provide any of the above info, but you will then not be able to use The Public Theatre services or certain features. You may request an “anonymous” purchase when making purchases in-person.
- Analytics
We may collect and store certain information about your interaction with The Public Theatre website and services, including cookies, IP Addresses, browser type, device type, location, Internet service provider (ISP), entry and exit pages, operating systems, time/date stamps, and other related data. The Public Theatre uses this information, only to improve the quality of our services and products. If you choose to decline cookies via your browser, you will have some limitations in using The Public Theatre services.
The Public Theatre does utilize Google Analytics and Facebook Pixels to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns.

When you purchase any products or make a donation using The Public Theatre services, your email will automatically be included in the The Public Theatre mailing list. You will receive welcome information, account information, and other marketing related information related to The Public Theatre services and the products you viewed and purchased. You may also receive periodic emails from us notifying you of new features, products, titles and other related information for The Public Theatre services. You may choose to opt out of receiving emails from The Public Theatre, but if you choose to do so, you will not receive technical support requests, account updates and notifications, product updates, security updates or updates to the Terms of Services as well as updates to Privacy Policy of The Public Theatre. However, you will receive communications directly related to your purchase. If you wish to resume receiving other emails, you must sign up again through the “Join our Email List” link on our website.

In the event The Public Theatre goes through a business transition, such as a merger, acquisition by or with another company, including partial or all assets, any personally identifiable information we have on record will likely be transferred with the transition.

Donor Privacy Policy
The Public Theatre is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. We have developed this policy to assure our donors that donor information will not be shared with any third party. This Privacy Policy applies to the collection of all forms of donor data, including electronic information collected on any website operated and controlled by The Public Theatre.
First and foremost, The Public Theatre is committed to protecting donor data with the utmost discretion. We will never sell donor data under any circumstances.
Furthermore, we work diligently to provide our donors with their preferred communication forms and frequency. Donors who wish to be removed from future donation campaigns, or donors who would like their donations listed as Anonymous may request this support at any time by contacting us at info@thepublictheatre.org or 207-782-3200
The Public Theatre will collect donor data for documentation and donor receipting purposes. This data may include:
- Donor contact information, including name, organization, physical address, phone number, and email address.
- Payment information, including check data or credit card number, expiration date, and security code, as well as any relevant billing information. Please note that The Public Theatre does not store any credit card or checking account information for repeat or future gift processing, though our third-party point of sale system, PatronManager, does, but keeps it confidential if requested by the donor.
- Payment methods are stored securely in PatronManager systems to administer recurring donations. Once the initial donation and payment method is established, The Public Theatre cannot access that data. Recurring donations may be set up online or by contacting us at 207-782-2211.
- If the gift is in honor or in memory of a third party, the donor may choose to disclose the name and address of the third party for notification purposes. Please note that imparting the name and address of an honoree does not add that person to our donor database, mailing list, or any electronic listserv.
The Public Theatre may collect donor information in the following ways:
- If a donor presents a question in person, by telephone, via e-mail, or in writing, The Public Theatre staff may collect donor information in order to respond to the inquiry.
- If a donor contacts The Public Theatre to make a donation online, via telephone, or in-person, The Public Theatre staff will collect contact and payment information in order to process that donation.
- If a donor is giving an in-kind donation to The Public Theatre, staff may request or confirm donor information in order to issue a tax receipt to that donor.
- If a donor is attending an event, The Public Theatre may request registrant and attendee information.
The Public Theatre may utilize donor information in the following ways:
- To thank donors for their donations in writing and to acknowledge donations in relevant publications, such as The Public Theatre playbills.
- To inform donors about The Public Theatre events, activities, and membership opportunities.
- For internal analysis and record-keeping;
- For reporting to relevant U.S. and State agencies (these reports are not for public inspection).
- To contact donors about changes to this Donor Privacy Policy.
The Public Theatre credit card transactions may be executed in one of two ways:
- The donor may go to The Public Theatre’s website and make a donation by personally keying in their credit card and billing data, which is then processed through PatronManager (our point-of-sale system), Leap (our merchant services provider), and Stripe (our payments gateway).
- The donor may authorize a credit card donation or a purchase by providing The Public Theatre with a credit card number and billing information, by which The Public Theatre can execute a credit card transaction on the donor’s behalf. The Public Theatre will use this information to execute the credit card transaction through PatronManager. Once the gift or purchase is processed, the credit card information will be separated from the information needed to acknowledge the gift or purchase, and the credit card and billing information will be shredded or electronically deleted.
The Public Theatre is committed to securing donor data in the following ways:
- The Public Theatre will not sell or rent donor information to other organizations. Donor information is confidential.
- Use of donor information is limited to internal gift processing purposes, analysis, and fundraising purposes, at the will and behest of The Public Theatre donors.
- The Public Theatre’s donor database is password-protected, and access is issued solely to The Public Theatre staff.
- The Public Theatre’s PatronManager account is encrypted, with limited and varying data access issued solely to The Public Theatre’s authorized users.
- The Public Theatre maintains an internal policy that any reports, envelopes, mailing labels, or other printed material that feature donor data are shredded rather than discarded.
This policy will be reviewed and amended as necessary.
