Dinner With Friends
David Newer & Don Carter
2001-2002 Season
When 9/11 happens we realize an actress we hired for the upcoming show Blithe Spirit lives in the World Trade Center neighborhood. It took us almost a week to locate her and find out she was okay.
Later that season, we get the idea to create a collage of family images for the set of Dinner with Friends that will become the backdrop for the show. For inspiration, the staff offers their family photos to artist Connell Garvey to create oversized charcoal drawings. Christopher still has the treasured 3-foot drawing that once hung on stage, of he and his 3-month-old daughter Emily, sharing a nap.
